This workshop will provide working definitions of structural racism, white supremacy, and inequity and will outline the evolution of their existence within the City of Jackson. It will also identify how structural and systemic racism exists within every system and includes public and private policies, institutional practices, acceptable social norms, and cultural appropriations that exist within the City of Jackson and the 2nd Ward. Participants will review how these practices operate, often covertly and commonly used terminology or titling, yet still historically and inherently discriminate, disenfranchise, devalue, disadvantage, and disengage individuals or groups of individuals based on race or ethnicity. Participants will examine the roots of white supremacy and other overt and covert mechanisms that have spanned over centuries.
